The following story was written by Richard Murray, from Guelph, Ontario. Richard is enrolled in literacy classes at Action Read in Guelph. The story below came out of a short-term group that was working on housing issues with their housing educator.
I like winter because I can play in the snow. I create dinosaurs, rabbits and candles out of snow. Then I spray paint them. One time, I made a white spider out of snow. Me and a certain staff have a snowball fight. I like that. Sometimes the staff takes the van to her house and visit her dog. If we ask, sometimes we can walk the dog if it's not too cold.
I used to shovel out the driveway in the winter some days. It was OK. It was cold but I still like it.
People know you have to wear warm clothes in winter. I wear a coat with a toque attached to it. I don't have winter gloves but I need some. I have OK winter boots. There's no holes in them, no rips in them.
I like winter because I can play in it.
