The following poem was written by Zippora Mamakwa, from Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Zipporah is enrolled in literacy classes at the Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council in Sioux Lookout, in northern Ontario.

Zipporah's Five Senses

by Zipporah Mamakwa

Linda Bear, Linda Bear, what can you hear?
I can hear Zipporah Skunk falling off her chair!

Zipporah Skunk, Zipporah Skunk, what can you smell?
I can smell Theresa Loon's burnt bannock!

Theresa Loon, Theresa Loon, what can you see?
I can see Edith Moose snoozing during class!

Edith Moose, Edith Moose, what can you taste?
I can taste salt in Genny Beaver's tea!

Genny Beaver, Genny Beaver, what can you feel?
I can feel Linda Bear's wild 'RROWWR' shaking the ground!
