I am so honoured to receive this award. Thank you, Literacy Alberta. Also, thank you Rachel, John, Rochelle, Scott Ward and my Mom for being here tonight in support of me.

I came to the John Howard Society Adult Transition Learning Centre two years ago, not sure of what to expect, with a goal in mind and a willingness to learn. I didn't know where it was going to take me, but I overcame all obstacles that I thought I couldn't do. So I'm here to tell you all I did do it. I reached my goal by working really hard and passing the skills appraisal test. I have now been accepted into the Hospital Unit Care Program at Northwest.

I am very proud of myself. Thanks to the John Howard Society Adult Transition Learning Centre for helping me in my educational journey and achieving my goal.

If it wasn't for the Learning Centre or the faith in myself, I may not have achieved my goal.

So, in closing, I'd like to say that I believe and hope that I have set the standard for my close students and perhaps some of you. It can be done; if you have faith in yourself and don't give up, you'll succeed.

Thank you and good night.
