Story of the Week
April 12, 1999
Our story this week is a special event, because we are launching a learner's story on the Internet, and you can read her story as well as hear an audio version.
Dana Leggett lives in Selkirk, Manitoba. She wrote this story for her 2 1/2 year old son, Zennen. In her spare time, Dana likes reading and painting scenery. She enjoys sports such as hockey, baseball, soccer and cycling. Most of the activities she is involved with are with her son, such as crafts and sports. Dana works as a Childcare Coordinator for the Rhyme and Reason Program of Literacy Partners of Manitoba. She also works for "Active Parenting", a group which gives classes on child development and such.
Dana attends classes at Growing Years Family Resource Centre information, in Selkirk, MB.
Tippy

Jarrin and his father were on their way to the pet store one day. Jarrin wanted a fish.
In the tanks there were fat fish, skinny fish, blue fish, green fish - even fish with stripes!
But there was one special fish. A pink fish that was sitting at the bottom of the tank. The little fish smiled. That was the fish that he wanted. He would call her Tippy.
At home, Tippy told Jarrin that she couldn't swim!
"A fish that can't swim?" asked Jarrin.
He didn't believe Tippy until he put her in her goldfish bowl and she sank to the bottom.
Jarrin decided to teach her.
At the beach the next day, Jarrin jumped in the water with Tippy. Tippy sank to the bottom. Thank goodness it was shallow water!
"Tippy where are you?"
So Jarrin kicked and splashed for Tippy showing her how to swim. Finally, Tippy got the hang of it!!!
Tippy could explore and learn in the water!!! She didn't have to sit at the bottom anymore!
"I can swim" said Tippy
