Story of the Week

April 6, 1998

Our story this week comes to us from Saint John, New Brunswick. The author, Mary Ann Gillette, decided to start upgrading classes in order to better her education and complete her Grade 12. She is enrolled in a Community Academic Services Program (CASP) in Saint John.

Family Treasures

by Mary Ann Gillette

My family treasure is my grandmother's ring, it is a 10 k gold ring with her initials carved on it. When I was fifteen years old, she gave it to me, and told me someday I would have a daughter and to pass it down to her.

I always liked the ring and didn't want to part with it. Finally I passed the ring down to my daughter. I realized then that my grandmother gave me an even greater treasure, and that is love.

It doesn't matter how much you give, its something you'll always have. I'll always have my grandmother's treasure, and to me that is the greatest treasure of all.
