Our story this week is a special event, because we are launching a learner's story on the Internet, and you can read his story as well as hear it, with the proper audio program as shown below.
Ward was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on July 15, 1965. He was raised in Sioux Valley, which is a reserve about 30 kilometres from Brandon. Ward now lives in Winnipeg and attends literacy classes at the Aboriginal Centres Literacy Program, a part of the Aboriginal Literacy Foundation. Since he did not complete his Grade 12 when he was in school, he thought he should go back and receive his diploma. Now that he has children himself, he cannot tell them that education is important if he did not finish school himself. Ward wants to be able to get a better job for himself, and for his kids, and to better himself as a person.

There he was on the street.
Singing a song and tapping his feet.
He picked up his guitar and started to strum.
Come another guy and he started to hum.
They began to speak they began to sing.
A catchy little song, with a catchy little ring.
The song they were singing I cannot repeat.
It was not a song to sing on the street.
Right along this time, along came the MAN.
Who dragged them off and threw them in the can.
They started to scream, help we're in jail.
I loved their song so much I paid their bail.
