We Stand on Guard! [For thee...]

by Robert Bear

The beginning. There were two boys who liked playing hockey everyday they played they won. They played these other team one time. One of the boys got very UPSET. He through all the hockey sticks all around their locker room. And one of those boys walked in, he saw him. And said to him stop it, the boy said I hate losing. The other boy we will win next time.

The next game was coming up and they lost again. But that boy was not upset anymore. The two boys STARTED winning so their coach asked them if they want to eat in McDonalds. They said sure. They were talking about hockey. The coach said "Stand-up. Well you two we are going to play with United States team. Starting on December 10th. OK, Winnipeg - show me what you got!"

The two boys and their West Side boy’s team lived in the West End of Winnipeg. They practiced everyday. Before December 10th the coach said to his team, "West Side boys before the game starts, go rest. We will win and beat the other team." The boys were happy the coach was helping them.

So December finely came. the two boys went to see their coach. The coach said to his team "Let's win this game!" Their national anthem was sung first and then the America national anthem. All of a sudden West Side boy’s team started throwing eggs at the American team. And those Americans didn’t like that, but the was played anyway.

Their West Side girlfriends said "wow. Why did you guys throw eggs at the American anthem singer?" You want to know what the first boy said to the girls? "I don’t like their national anthem song." The girls said that was just bad. Then the other boy said "do you ever hear Canada's anthem, we stand on guard for thee?" then the coach walked in on them "yes I know our anthem song is good. We'll do it right next time."

They won the game, but it was a total disaster. The next game was about to start. The two boys were talking and playing better. And did they win the game? Yes they did!
