Lynne Charette's Story

by Lynne Charette

My sister, brother and I were all born at St. Boniface Hospital. Our family resided in St. Boniface until 1966. This is when my parents bought their first house which was located in St. Vital. This is where we resided when I first began to speak English at the age of four and a half. When I reached grade ten I decided not to continue school in St. Vital. I attended Kildonan East Collegiate. After one and a half years of attending, I decided to quit school and get married. Seven and a half years later was when I decided to leave my marriage with my three children and start a life of our own back in the city.

The first year I stayed home with the kids. Then, I went to work as a cook for the next few years. I took another year off and then started working at Kitchen Craft where I'm still employed.

When I started at this job is when I decided I was ready to go back to school to study for my GED certificate. Also, I'm planning to take some computer courses. This will enable me to qualify for job advancement at work or to relocate out of the province if I choose.
