Story of the Week

November 5, 2007

This week, we have a story written by Semsi Develioglu, Edmonton, Alberta. Semsi is originally from Turkey. She moved to Canada after her husband died. Her daughter has lived in Edmonton for 28 years now. Semsi is a senior and she likes learning new things. Her favourite pastime is oil painting, which she began about three years ago.

I love painting

by Semsi Develioglu

I am from Istanbul, Turkey. My daughter moved to Edmonton 28 years ago. Her three children were born in Canada. I visited them many times. After I lost my husband, I came to Canada to live.

I am a senior. I like learning new things, being active and making good friends.

When I was young, I finished college. I learned sewing, painting and other skills with my hands. I can make hats, bags, flowers and other things.

Three years ago, I started oil painting at a seniors centre. I paint landscapes, flowers and old buildings from my own country. I forget time when I am painting.
