Me and My Son Cody

by Kerry Fitzpatrick

I am a single mother to a handsome son named Cody Fitzpatrick. I remember the first day I learned I was pregnant. Even though I was 33, I was still nervous and scared because I knew that it would be a big challenge to raise a baby. I have looked after children all my life and I love it, but when I found out I was having my own everything changed. You have to make sure you have a good job, be married. I am thankful that I have help from my mother and sister.

I am very happy that I am a mother and I will never regret being one but there are challenges in life. One was that I had to learn to read and write and I was very scared and embarrassed to tell anyone. I became involved with Parent and Tot and I have the nicest health nurse named Amy. They are wonderful people, so any parent out there, I recommend this program. There are many activities. Amy was the lady who told me about Bridging the Gaps. Stephanie was a great tutor and helped me so much in six months and she got me into the Literacy Program.  Anyone who needs help with reading and writing, don't be scared to get help. Any parent who needs help, don't ever be afraid to ask, nobody is perfect.

I have a great tutor named Jennifer and a wonderful friend named Jenny who is always there whenever I need it, at the library or with any homework I have. Anybody who reads this and knows anyone with reading or writing problems please let them know it's never too late to get help and there will always be someone there for you.
