Story of the Week

January 30, 2006

Here is Angela's story from Rabbittown Learners' Program, in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Back to School

by Angela W.

I came back to school because when I was in high school the teachers pushed me through grade ten to twelve. I was at the office everyday complaining because they read books to me and gave me the answers. I knew that this would not help me. I used to say to the teachers how are we going to get somewhere in life. I would go home and tell my mom about it. She would say if you feel like it is right do it. I would say to her, how am I going to get a job or read to my children. I don't want them to go through the same things that I went through in life.

So that's why I am here today at the Rabbittown Learners Program. So I can eventually go to the college to get my life on track. The instructors are really great here because the students have to do things on their own. It's nothing like high school. The best thing about it is that there is a lot of nice people going here. I am doing more work here then I ever did before. But I can say I am having a lot of fun also. It's my last year here and I am hoping to go to the college after Christmas to complete my level two and three.
