Here is Jackie's story from Rabbittown Learners' Program, in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
I came back to school because I wanted my education for my boys and for me. I wanted to have a good job and good self esteem about myself. I love learning and going to school. I want to be able to get my Grade 12 because I need my Education to get somewhere in life. Without my Education I'll be nothing. School is a good thing to do, to be able to attend and to be happy. I am nervous coming into school but thats a normal feeling. In school you meet new people that are friendly to you. I am going to stay in school and work my hardest to make it I know I can do it.
My boys are my world so school is for my boys and me so I can do more stuff for them when they get older. In school there are nice teachers that are helping you to learn in school. The most important thing about school is you got to attend, listen and do all your work . You have to be happy and you can do it and make it somewhere in life.
My sister is a teacher, a really good one too, so I know that I can go to school and make something of myself. I am going to study and pass everything I am going to try my best. After I get my grade 12, I want to go in to be a nurse because I love helping people out, that is a good thing to do. I love working on computers but I'll get the hang of it after awhile.
My son gave me heart earrings for Mothers Day he said mommy you wear your heart earrings to school. So I always wear my earrings to school, that's what it is keeping me strong and keeping me going to school. I love attending school it makes me feel really good about myself.
