The following story was written by Cathy MacDougall, from Saint Andrew's, P.E.I. Cathy lives with her husband Billy and two sons, Ben and Peter. After several years of putting it off, Cathy decided this year she would return to school to get that high school diploma that she almost had 25 years ago. She hopes to use that diploma to move her towards a career that requires less travel and allows her to spend more time with her family.
People ask what it is like to go back to school? Good question. The only person who can answer that question is you . For me it's been a decision I've put off for years. I was always scared to try new things. This year I got the courage to try and I am glad I did. When I was in highschool I did not want to be there and as a result I was short one credit for graduation in 1978. I didn't go back and I would not go back. I had made every excuse known to mankind until now. I have been juggling with this decision for at least the last five years. With encouragement from friends and family and watching friends accomplish their dream helped me in my decision. Work also factored into my decision with having to work such long hours and missing out on life. I want something better. The way to get something better is to complete your education.
Here at adult education you get it all. You have great teachers who are there to help you any time you need it. There is no pressure because you go at your own pace. The atmosphere is one where everyone who enters is treated with respect and dignity. My classmates make everyday a joy to be here and I'm truly glad I made my decision to return to school in 2004. My only regret is that I had not made my decision sooner. Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today. The pot of gold is waiting for you and me. Together we can find our rainbow.
