For My Mother

by Hae Jin

My mother is 76 years old. She has been living in Canada for 7 years. She likes Canada very much even though she doesn't know how to speak English. She goes to church almost every day and meets friends gathering together. She has had a knee replacement surgery on both knees, but is not really satisfied. Instead she complains, and she is trying to find out what she wants. She has plans of her own. She is the busiest person in my family. At the beginning she didn't know how to get to the church, so I drove her, but she doesn't want to have help all the time. She found herself a BC Transit Time Table and instead of asking she goes anywhere she wants. In winter, I don't want my Mom going out very often because something could happen, or she might fall down on the road, she'd have a hard time recovering. I want my Mom to enjoy her life without suffering.
