The following poem was written by Loretta Elleze, from Fort Providence, Northwest Territories. Loretta was born in Fort Providence in 1973. She is a proud mother of five children. She enrolled in the Adult Literacy Basic Education program in the fall of 2004. She was an active learner and participated well in all the subjects offered at the centre. Loretta is going to continue her education next fall. She is interested in the community office administration certificate program.

My Car

I was happy to buy a car
With some cash
I could ride around
With my children
I loaned my car
To my friend
She crashed
She had a scratch on her back
My car was trash.
