The Benefits of Colchester Adult Learning Association

by Mary Lou Fraser

Hello! My name is Mary Lou Fraser and I live in Truro. Truro is very central and it is a good place to live.

I would like to tell you about the benefits of C.A.L.A as they relate to me. The first thing I noticed was that my self-esteem improved. I felt much better about myself. It is very important to have a goal in life, and to fulfill a life-long dream. Since my mid-twenties I had dreamed of completing my High School education, which would, hopefully, help me to get a better job.

The second benefit is that I am learning new skills, such as the correct use of a computer and improving my skill in mathematics. My marks in English have also improved. They are a lot higher than in school.

The other benefit is that I was chosen for a year's enrolment in an exercise program. This has been a huge help. I exercise more and my stress level is reduced, so that I feel better. It has even reduced my cholesterol level! I have lost ten pounds. My sweet tooth is curbed and I hope to keep my weight down permanently. All in all this program has been tops for me.
