The goal of the California Distance Learning Project is to help expand learner access to adult basic education services in California. The purpose of this site is to help adults improve basic skills like reading and spelling using real-life stories on topics of interest to adults. There is a separate section for teachers and adult educators.

An international literacy study shows that almost half of adult Canadians do not read or write well enough to meet the demands of today’s workplace. The Career Pathways Instructional Materials Library, which is affiliated with LINCS, includes materials to help educators develop and implement work-based education programs and career pathways for adult learners in their Adult Basic Education and General Educational Development programs.

Calton Adult Reading and Writing Program started out as a community group providing a one-to-one literacy program. We have grown a lot since then, and while the main focus continues to be on adult literacy, we now provide ESL and various other courses, such as literacy for English speakers, Special Needs classes, Numeracy and Computers.

If you have found it difficult to find employment that matches your education and skills, Centennial College offers short-duration, fast-track programs of interest to internationally trained individuals. Most of the courses offered at Centennial can be customized to meet the specific needs of any workforce.

CIET is committed to meeting the needs of immigrant workers by preparing students to enter or advance their careers in different industries. All of the courses seek to train students to be conversant in American workplace culture. This includes being able to map the next steps on their career path, being able to identify skills they already possess and which can be transferred to new positions, as well as enhancing their computer literacy.

The ACE (Adult Continuing Education) program is designed to assist motivated and academically capable students who are 15 or older. The program is self-paced and academically oriented. Through ACE, students can prepare for the GED, prepare for the LPI (Language Proficiency Index), or can graduate with most college / university prerequisites.

In addition to preparing students for post-secondary and apprenticeship training, Ontario college programs are also increasingly focusing on helping them move successfully into employment. This portion of the website is dedicated to sharing resources that colleges have developed to promote and deliver workforce and workplace preparation. These stakeholders pool their expertise and ideas in order to enhance public employment services and foster workforce skills development and recognition.

Seventy-nine demonstrations from the CABS (Common Assessment of Basic Skills) manual have been recreated on this website to provide a practical assessment tool for use with Literacy/Basic Skills students who can work on computers. Approximately 15 assessment activities at each of the five levels address important reading, writing, numeracy and basic computer skills outcomes in integrated formats.

Founded in 1974, CLEO specializes in public legal education and information, primarily through the production of printed materials. Cumberland Adult Network for Upgrading (CAN-U) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping adults in Cumberland County improve their literacy, numeracy and technology skills. Its mandate is to work with adults 19 years of age and older who do not have a high school diploma and have been out of school for at least a year.

The Curtoglen Literacy Centre is a non-profit community organization, made up largely of parents and community volunteers who are dedicated to addressing the literacy needs of parents and children.
