PCALC is growing and changing to meet the needs of adult learners in the County of Paintearth, Alberta. Its current offerings include programs in adult basic skills, English language learning, family literacy, workplace education and senior living.

This project involves working with Early Intervention and Family Resource staff to strengthen the literacy development of priority pre-school children and their parents. The goal is to work within the existing infrastructure to strengthen the literacies of home and centre based programs and to nurture a more coordinated approach to effective literacy education.

Partner Assisted Learning (PAL) is a FREE program based in Kamloops, that offers adults one-to-one help in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Volunteer tutors are matched with learners and typically meet once a week for an hour.

Partners in Employment is a not-for-profit organization that assists people in Huron and Perth counties to find and keep employment. The organization has three employment resource centres: Stratford, Listowel and St.Marys, and offers a one-on-one job search service throughout Huron and Perth counties.

Calgary’s Pathways Employment Program provides individuals 18 years of age and older with any diagnosed disability the resources they need to get into the workforce. Professional workshops offer participants additional support to help them advance their knowledge, gain confidence, make valuable connections and work to become self-sustaining, independent adults.

LiteracyLink’s goal is to provide a link for underserved and hard-to-reach adults and their teachers to quality adult basic education and GED preparation tools using technology. Combining video, the Internet, and print materials, LiteracyLink programs are relevant to the needs of the individual learner, adult instructional programs and the workforce. The workplace essential skills online component has 24 free online lessons/activities, each of which includes a video clip supported by its objective, key ideas and follow-up.

The Peel-Halton-Dufferin Adult Learning Network provides service coordination to local literacy and adult learning organizations in Peel, Halton and Dufferin. The network helps instructors provide better quality education to adult learners by offering professional development, communications and networking opportunities.

People, Words & Change is a non-profit literacy organization for adults in the Ottawa region. Through volunteer tutors, they have been helping adults read and write better since 1978.

The Petroleum Human Resources Council of Canada is a collaborative forum that addresses human resources issues within the petroleum industry. Those issues include: access to under-represented workers – immigrants, women and Aboriginals; skills shortages and retaining older workers; labour market information gaps; shifting skill requirements; essential skills and links to safety and retention; mobility of the workforce; creative human resources practices; education and promotion of careers within the industry.

The Peter Gzowski Invitationals (PGIs) for Literacy were founded by the late Canadian broadcaster and journalist Peter Gzowski. His goals were to raise much-needed resources for the thousands of adult learners who struggle with the challenge of low literacy, and have a lot of fun in the process. Held annually in every province and territory, the PGIs have raised more than $12 million net since 1986.

The Port Hawkesbury Literacy Council is a non-profit organization incorporated under the Nova Scotia Societies Act in February of 1999. It promotes lifelong learning, literacy networking and awareness, and encourages and supports literacy initiatives.

Pro-Net 2000 is an adult education professional development project funded by the US Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE). The project builds on the professional development activities of the OVAE over the past 10 years.
