The Wainwright & District Council for Adult Lifelong Learning is one of 83 Adult Learning Councils in Alberta. Its adult learning and family literacy programs are listed according to learning objective – employability, adult literacy, community enhancement – and general interest. Using a client-centred approach, the organization forms and maintains partnerships that respond to community educational needs, provides opportunities for teachers and learners facing barriers and advocates adult literacy in the community.

WelcomeBC is intended to help attract immigrants to the province and provide a hospitable environment. It offers settlement programs and supports to help newcomers learn to live and work in their new environment. The mission of the WQLC is to help English-speaking adults, families and youth improve their reading, writing, listening, speaking, numeracy and other lifeskills through programs adapted to the needs of the individual.

The Women’s Centre of Montreal provides services to help women help themselves. It offers educational and vocational training, information, counselling and referral services. The non-profit organization also communicates women’s concerns to the public and acts as a catalyst for change regarding women’s issues.

The Wood Manufacturing Council is working to address the human resource development needs of firms involved in the advanced manufacturing of wood products. The council works to identify and examine the necessary skills and knowledge required to respond to the changing needs of the industry. It also has an overall strategic plan to address key issues such as the shortage of skilled workers and the need for national standards for worker competencies.

Based at the University of Alberta, WLN promotes research and dialogue about learning in the changing domains of work. Interested researchers, educators, academic and government representatives are welcome to join.

The Work-Based Learning Project is designed to provide the research, best practices, tools, tips and learning communities necessary to help you design and implement effective work-based learning programs. It is designed to meet the needs of employers, unions, workplace educators and trainers, and officials at the state and local levels responsible for workforce development.

The WorkBC website provides an expanded source of information to meet the needs of each of the core users of labour market information. The five sections – career pathways, job seekers, employers, service providers and labour market statistics – guide users to relevant tools, facts and statistics, presenting case studies and success stories to outline how particular information or services can help.

Led by the newly emerging diamond, oil and gas industries, the North is experiencing a period of growth. Go Safe is a program offered by the Workers’ Compensation Board of Northwest Territories and Nunavut in partnership with northern employers to promote safety in the workplace. A new website for the program is accessible from this site.

The Workplace Education Manitoba Steering Committee (WEMSC) is a business-labour-government partnership that promotes essential skills and literacy training in the workplace. WEMSC works with employers to assess the need for essential skills training, develop and deliver custom workplace training and train the trainers.
