The Language Portal of Canada is a website that showcases Canadian expertise in the area of language. It informs readers about Canadian resources including online language tools; articles and writing tips; word games and exercises (the Well Written, Well Said section); a collection of links to language-related works and sites (the Discover section); and Canadian writing tools and content produced by governments, universities and others. Information is available in English and French, and in some Aboriginal languages.

Learning at Work Day

National Learning at Work (LAW) Day is an annual awareness campaign, promoting and supporting workplace learning events across England. The Campaign for Learning started organizing LAW Day in 1999 as part of Adult Learners’ Week to draw attention to the importance of workplace learning and skills. Each year, thousands of organizations take part and stage fun and business-related learning activities to help their staff learn new skills they can put into action at work.

Learning Networks of Ontario (LNO) is made up of 16 learning networks each of which provides support to Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) programs through core services funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities as part of Employment Ontario. As a group, LNO shares resources to provide quality training; collaborates in areas that relate to service coordination; identifies provincial needs; and plans a response to these needs. The Learning Networks are playing an increasingly important role in system planning, coordination and integration that extends beyond the field of literacy to other partners under the umbrella of Employment Ontario.

The Centre for Education and Work has developed online resources to help foreign-trained workers prepare to the expectations of Canadian workplaces. This series of e-learning resources will allow immigrant workers to prepare for the subtle and implicit expectations of communication, working in teams, management and supervisory approaches, management structures and their impact on reporting and communication styles, learning skills, and social interactions in the Canadian workplace.
