This website looks at the learning paths of workers with low literacy skills in different types of workplace education programs across Canada. The site features seven case studies written by field researchers and whose stories represent the relatedness of formal and informal training for workers with low skills. The section Fostering Partnership Development examines strategies used to engage business, labour, literacy practitioners and provincial/ territorial governments.

Calgary’s Pathways Employment Program provides individuals 18 years of age and older with any diagnosed disability the resources they need to get into the workforce. Professional workshops offer participants additional support to help them advance their knowledge, gain confidence, make valuable connections and work to become self-sustaining, independent adults.

LiteracyLink’s goal is to provide a link for underserved and hard-to-reach adults and their teachers to quality adult basic education and GED preparation tools using technology. Combining video, the Internet, and print materials, LiteracyLink programs are relevant to the needs of the individual learner, adult instructional programs and the workforce. The workplace essential skills online component has 24 free online lessons/activities, each of which includes a video clip supported by its objective, key ideas and follow-up.

Pennsylvania Partners represent workforce development professionals in each of the state’s 23 workforce investment areas. Its members oversee and operate employment and training programs administered under the federal Workforce Investment Act and other workforce programs. The organization shares best practices for improving workforce development operations and serves as a clearinghouse for workforce development information.

Plain Language Partners offers workplace services considering the special needs of the legal and justice communities to help increase efficiency, productivity and communication effectiveness.

The PORT CARES Educational Resource Centre provides skills training to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to develop the reading, writing, mathematics and computer skills necessary to function more effectively in their personal, community and work lives.
